OZONE THERAPIES
How is Ozone given for the treatment of wounds?
Ozone can be given in the form of external applications like
1. Bagging the affected wound
2. Cupping the affected wound
3. Ozonated water soaks
4. Ozonated oil applications
1. Bagging the affected wound
After thoroughly wetting the affected limb, it is put in an Ozone resistant plastic bag. The mouth of the bag is closed with an elastic band after putting the outlet tube of the Ozonator in the plastic bag. The wound is bathed in Ozone for 30-40 minute.
Higher Ozone concentration is used for disinfecting the wound in the initial stages when daily sessions are recommended. After about a week, Ozone concentration is decreased to stimulate healing process and Ozone can be given 2-3 times a week.
2. Cupping the affected wound
For wounds where bagging is not possible, glass funnel can be used in place of plastic bag. It is specially recommended for furuncles and wounds on the torso.
For fistulas and sinuses, a very thin PVC catheter is used.
3. Ozonated water soaks
Ozonated water is prepared by bubbling Ozone at high concentration through water in a glass container for at least 10 minutes. Colder the water, higher the Ozone absorbed and retained. However, it is advisable to prepare fresh Ozonated water for soaks. It is very useful in cellulites, burns, fresh wounds after operation, highly inflamed wound, etc.
4. Ozonated oil application
Long shelf life of almost a year is the main advantage of Ozonated oil. In European countries Ozonated Oil is used extensively for disinfecting the lesions and promoting their healing. It is especially recommended in treatment of bed sores, diabetic ulcers, venous ulcers, ulcers following arterial insufficiencies, burns, sinuses and fistulas. It is easy to apply and does not require any fancy applicator.
In very advanced cases, systemic application of Ozone in the form of rectal insufflations or major Autohemotherapy can further accelerate wound healing.
Contra-indications and side-effects:
